Our Horses
Ascona MBF
Ascona, aka “Kona” or “Queenie,” is our foundation mare. Initially bred in New Jersey, Kona was passed around a number of owners and sales programs from the age of 5-11. Dr. Trawick was made aware of her by a client, then acquired her “as-is” on a whim. The possible sales horse quickly became family.
While Kona once was entirely shut down, she is now a pleasure riding horse (except when faced with puddles). She has been too traumatized in the showjumping ring to compete at rated shows. She loves to go out on bridle paths and jump in fields. If she could show, her strength would be her speed. She is a classic good mare.
Kona’s sire is one of the famous sons of Quidam de Revel, Quinar. Quinar was available to Kona’s dam when he was sent to Fox Fire Farm in Washington State through the Holsteiner Association. Sadly, he passed away at just 17. Quinar’s most famous offspring might be the jumper Quick Nik. Doug Payne is currently showing a Quinar son named Quintessence in the US. Quinar also stands out as a damsire, notably for the formidable event horse London 52 as well as Will Coleman’s Chin Tonic HS.
Kona’s damsire is Rio Grande, whom Augustin Walch imported as a 3-year-old. He won Grand Prix classes with Eric Lamaze on Canadian Nations Cup teams before becoming a coveted sire. Rio was known for his good attitude and produced many award-winning AO hunter mounts. Kona did not wish to be an AO hunter mount.
Kona has one known maternal sibling. He was sired by Cabardino and competed through CCI3*S in eventing.

Thirza TS
Kannan GFE x Quinar x Rio Grande | 2025 Holsteiner
Thirza is Kona’s third daughter and she is truly a gift. Her father, Kannan, needs no introduction. He has been the #1 ranked show jumping sire in the world and remains high in the ratings year after year. He had four direct offspring in the 2024 Olympics alone, including Shane Sweetnam’s James Kann Cruz. As a damsire, Kannan has given us Karl Cook’s superstar mare Caracole De La Roque. In appearance, little Thirza seems to be more of her father’s blue bay than her mother’s light bay. This little lady has big shoes to fill! If you ask her, she’s already filled them.
Thalia TS
C-Dakota VDL x Namelus R x Joost | 2025 Holsteiner
Thalia was created to bring another set of classic bloodlines into the fold and she has not disappointed! Thalia shares her father, out of Hyperion Stud, with Phila. Her dam competed successfully at the 1.40 level with amateurs and descends from the successful Dermie stamm. The original “Dermie,” born in 1968, is by the holsteiner stallion Rigoletto. A current Dermie competitor is Aaron Vale’s I Adermie R 4.
Namelus R is a KWPN stallion who also carries the old holsteiner blood of Joost. Probably his most famous offspring is Nintender, though he produced other well known 1.60 horses including more recently Peder Fredricson's H&M Christian K.
Thalia’s tiny trot is next level and she is fiercely independent. It will be a joy to see her develop.
Rhoda TS
Portland L x Quinar x Rio Grande | 2023 Holsteiner
Rhoda is Kona’s second daughter out of a surrogate mother. Her sire is the damsire of Tovek’s Mary Lou, who is lovingly regarded for his kind personality at his home farm in Canada. As a foal, we called Rhoda “the tiny professional” because she’s been a know-it-all from day one. She has a sensitive spirit and hides it behind a solid frame. Rhoda was a premium foal at her Holsteiner inspection.
Phila TS
C-Dakota VDL x Quinar x Rio Grande | 2022 Holsteiner
Phila, or “Peach,” is Kona’s first daughter. Peach has a similar personality to her mom in that she is suspicious of new things, wild when she feels it’s worth it, and generally level-headed on the ground. She can’t be bothered to walk quickly to and from her paddock, but she does love to run. Her sire is a gorgeous son of Casall who didn’t meet his competition potential due to a traumatic injury. We hope he provides some scope and elasticity to Peach’s jump — only time will tell!
Rowland TS
Rubinero x Sandro Hit x Alabaster | 2023 Oldenburg
Rowland is our miscellaneous Oldenburg gelding, who is not bay and is not a mare, but we love him very much anyway. He is an in-your-pocket, even-tempered guy and will hopefully grow to combine Rubinero’s temperament and stamina with the style and spark of his dam. He is for sale to a young professional or solid development home. In the meantime, he will keep growing and getting into trouble with friends. He is currently working on his ground manners and attending some breed shows.
Brookes All Mine
Brooke is a resident recipient mare who came to us through a thoroughbred aftercare group and was quickly found to need a fetlock arthrodesis. She is a sweet but emotionally complex individual who seems to find peace in being a mother. We do our best to keep her happy, and she has a forever home with the herd.
